ONE DAY INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO V.V.V AND SONS EDIBLE OILS LIMITED

On 11th November 2024, the first-year students of the Department of Management Studies, along with faculty Dr. S.T. Anand and Mrs. George Mary Aarthi, visited V.V.V. and Sons Edible Oils Limited (Idhayam) at Virudunagar.

The students visited the factory as part of the industrial visit. It was started with a presentation explaining the structure of the factory and product line of the factory. One of the staff in the factory, Mr. Selva Murugan, explains everything about the factory and the products they manufacture. From the explanation, we identified that this brand is trying out a new market for its sesame oil. Now they come out with an innovative marketing strategy, “oil pulling,” for Rs. 3. Their by-products are sesame oil cake and groundnut oil cake. Idhayan group product units are situated in different areas. Virudhunagar units are involved in the production of sesame oil. They buy their raw materials from various states of India, like Kerala, Gujarat, Punjab, etc. They export nearly Idhayam oils to 38 countries. Most of the products are exported to Malaysia, Canada, Sydney, Singapore, etc.

For the past two years the company has entered the oil market with the name “Mantra” ground oil. Next comes the structure of the factory; they maintain a hot air system for reducing moisture Automatic Tunnel Diver for heating the seeds. The sesame oil process starts with receiving the sesame seeds and storing them in the storage house, then blending and cleaning the seeds, then crushing the seeds; here, while crushing the seeds, all the wastes are separated. Then the seeds are changed into oil cake, and the oil is filtered for 2 times at 60 degrees Celsius and started for packaging the oils. They got a food-grade certificate. For one day, they are crushing nearly 1300 kg of sesame seed. This is the only factory that is maintaining SILO units for sesame. In Idhayam, packaging materials of pouches are made in Chennai and bottles in the Varalloti unit. 10ml ,50ml, 100ml, 200ml, 500ml, 1 lit,2 lit, 5 lit pouches/ bottler are available for sesame oil. After packaging, they stored it in the central godown of Idhayam.

The next section is an interview. We have a great interview with V.R. Muthu, founder of Idhayam. He is such a great person with so much vision. He had answered the entire question very kindly that we asked of him. Through this, we identified that this factory is making very good quality oil for their customer. The students are satisfied with the industrial visit.
