On May 29th, 2023, the Physics Department at RCET organized a thought-provoking guest lecture that delved into the topic of “Relevance of Thermal Comfort in Buildings.” The session was conducted by Dr. Anantha Lakshmi, the Principal of Gregorian Institute of Technology, Kottayam. The lecture was specifically designed for first-year Civil Engineering students, providing them with valuable insights into the crucial aspect of thermal comfort in building design.
Thermal comfort plays a pivotal role in the design and construction of buildings, impacting the well-being and productivity of occupants. Dr. Anantha Lakshmi’s lecture aimed to shed light on the principles and significance of creating indoor environments that promote comfort and efficiency.
“The thermal comfort of occupants is a key consideration in building design,” emphasized Dr. Anantha Lakshmi. This lecture aimed to equip students with the understanding required to create spaces that are conducive to comfort and functionality. During the guest lecture, Dr. Anantha Lakshmi explored the various factors that contribute to thermal comfort, including temperature, humidity, air circulation, and insulation. She discussed the importance of designing buildings that provide optimal conditions for occupants, ensuring their well-being and satisfaction.
Dr.Anantha Lakshmi’s expertise and practical insights resonated with the students, as they gained a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in creating comfortable indoor environments.
Students realized that building design goes beyond aesthetics and should prioritize the comfort of the people inside.
Students took away a newfound appreciation for the role of thermal comfort in building design.
